So when we couldn’t guarantee the supply of the best quality sheepskins, we didn’t hesitate to take on a new challenge and opened a tannery of our very own. It’s all part of our commitment to continue to manufacture quality products in Australia and it’s a choice that comes with a lot of hard work.

Roman Tannery is the only sheepskin footwear tannery left in Australia. Our ecologically friendly tanning process takes about two weeks, during which the hides are cleaned, combed, buffed, polished and dyed with care. Our techniques are always evolving and improving through engaging with modern thinking and innovation. This is our philosophy born of a love for excellent quality and kept alive by our family’s passion for true honest craftsmanship. Having our own tannery means that we can ensure the very best quality, from sheep to boot!

The Roman Quality

Roman Tannery has specialised in double face sheepskins since first established. Our double face tanning process will give durability and a consistently unmatched quality. You can tell our sheepskin boots are the best because they hold their shape. Australian Merino Sheepskins are superbly suited to footwear. Our tanning process takes about ten days.

Overseas the process can take 3-5 days and often reduces the quality of the finish of skins creating a more synthetic like results thus reducing the quality, durability and effective heat regulation. Having our own tannery here in Australia means that we can ensure the very best quality from sheep to every pair of boots.
